I want to get in some theatre and attend a few acting classes, and also go to auditions for film and tv. I know that of course the prime places for that are Chicago, New York, and LA, but is Seattle a good place to get your start, get in some experience?Does Seattle have good oppurtunities for an aspiring actress?
Actually, the theater scene in Seattle is world-class (and extremely competitive). Film, video, commercial work is steady, but not as big as it used to be. Of course, the Vancouver BC connection makes up for that somewhat.
If you can make the cut, entrance into the UW Actors' program is a first class door opener into an acting career. Cornish has a good program with networking ability, too.
One feature of the Seattle scene is that there are only a few casting agents controlling the bulk of the gigs. So, if you get off on the right foot and make a good impression, you are going to get a lot of auditions and opportunities. Of course, the reverse is also true...Seattle is and always has been a 'big little city'. It can be difficult at times to break into the scene and hard to shake a bad rep.
There are plenty of clinics, workshops and experimental theater going on at any given time. Especially during the Fringe Festival %26amp; other arts festivals, the demand for actors willing to take a chance on being cast in the next big thing is very high.
If what you really want is a shot at a sit-com or feature film, then yeah\\you'll want to get right to the heart of the industry. However, if you're looking to learn your craft, build a resume and make some great contacts before you take the plunge, Seattle is a good choice.
Best wishes for this and all your future endeavors.
Cheers
