How can you find people to help move heavy stuff in Seattle?

I am moving to seattle, and dont know anyone. I have to buy furniture, get boxes that i shipped from another state, etc. How do you hire help or where could i turn to get help with heavy stuff, and maybe a truck? How can you find people to help move heavy stuff in Seattle?

There are lots of other people on craigslist too.
find a movingcompanny or valuntears to help you move true salavation Army etc.How can you find people to help move heavy stuff in Seattle?
Labor Ready can help with the manpower and UHaul has the truck.
You can call U-Haul to go one way. Depending on how much stuff you have will determine what size truck they will use. They're very professional and you don't have to tip them. Look them up in the Yellow Pages, or do it by computer. Come on up!~! :) btw, these guys are STRONG!!! Good luck with the move. -L

How do I get a postal address for a location (in Seattle, WA) that currently does not have an address?

I recently started renting some commercial space in Seattle, WA. Previously, this was was part of a separate space and only recently started being rented out on its own. The location didn't have a postal address, but the property management company assured me they'd take care of it.

Long story short, 3 months in my office still doesn't have an address. What do I need to do to handle getting a postal address for my office location myself? How do I get a postal address for a location (in Seattle, WA) that currently does not have an address?
Go to the Local Post Office and inquire there. They will arrange it.

If the management company did not make the change according to zoning laws they may not want officials to know. How do I get a postal address for a location (in Seattle, WA) that currently does not have an address?
1. verify that it has a street address with Seattle, and if not, obtain one.

2. contact post office to make sure the address is listed with them.

3. install mail drop or mailbox, depending on which is needed.

What is is about Seattle that attracts those with little or no money?

I have to ask. We already seem to have plenty of homeless people, yet daily, there are folks inquiring about taking a bus to Seattle with little more than the shirt on their back. Is it the climate? The way Seattle is portrayed in the media? eg. the movie 'Singles' How come Seattle has the reputation as a place to runaway to? Or is every big city? What is is about Seattle that attracts those with little or no money?
I think there's kind of a "mystique" to Seattle. It kind of surrounds the general NW area, which seems to be sort of "cut off" from the rest of the country. Not really, but people don't seem to know as much about the area, aside from Space Needle/grunge music/Seahawks/etc. It's def not the climate! It's more an idea...

There are a lot more people who are homeless living in warmer climates, like heaps of people who live on the beaches in Hawaii and survive better in warmer climates where they can sleep in more places and need less shelter.
I'm not sure what the draw is. The weather is horrible in the winter. You'd think they would pack up on a bus and get out of town. What is is about Seattle that attracts those with little or no money?
No Vagrancy Law

Homeless can sleep in doorways......
Yeah, and there used to be a lot of runaways on Broadway when I was living in the Central District. I have no idea why they all chose Seattle.

Where in Seattle is a good place to live?

I know it rains a lot, and it is often cloudy, but that is my kind of setting. Where can I live in or around Seattle that is affordable? And how easy is it to get a job? Getting a job here in California is nearly impossible. I'm planning on moving over there some time in mid to late 2010.

Last but not least, besides the weather, what is it like in Seattle? Like how are the people and such.Where in Seattle is a good place to live?
A great place to live is Lynnwood, Edmonds, or Shoreline. They are very affordable and are about 20 minutes away from Seattle. Seattle doesn't rain as much as people think it does...or maybe I'm just used to it..but the weather is pretty OK. In the summer it gets at a good temperature.

Edit: people are cool too, safe city.

  • How much would it cost/should I save to relocate to Seattle?

After I finished school in 2012 I want to relocate and start a new life my top 3 cities are San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston. I want know how much should I try to save up to relocate and what are these cities like. How much would it cost/should I save to relocate to Seattle?
I understand the youthful desire to pull up and move to somewhere fresh and exciting. While I can鈥檛 speak for SF or Boston I can definitely speak for Seattle. Seattle is full of optimistic college grads looking for a fresh start in a vibrant city. The smart ones have a job and a place to live lined up long before they load up the moving truck. You know what happens to the rest of them 鈥?the ones who didn鈥檛 plan ahead and figured they would work out the details when they got here? Those kids bus tables and jockey cash registers in convenience stores.

Seattle is super competitive and expensive. Finding a job here is competitive because just about everyone is well educated. No joke 鈥?the guy who works nights at the gas station by my house has a Masters in Physics. He doesn鈥檛 work at 7-11 because he wants to 鈥?it鈥檚 because that鈥檚 the best he could get right now.

If it were me, I wouldn鈥檛 show up in the Emerald City with any less than a Masters, a job, an apartment lined up and $ 5,000 in the bank.
I say go to Seattle or SF. you can find a decent apartment in seattle for about $800, check out northgate or u-district on craigslist. As for jobs... it can be tough because the competition. But you shouldn't have a difficult time finding a "just-to-get-by" job.

Cheers-How much would it cost/should I save to relocate to Seattle?
Moving to Seattle will be ALOT cheaper then your other choices, and a lot easier to find and apartment but it will still be expensive. A one bedroom apt. in the city will cost you between $850-$1500 depending where you live. You can get a decent studio for around $700. Typically you will need to save first, last and a deposit. I would recommend saving at least another $5000 to hold you over until you get a job etc. If cost of living is a factor go with Seattle, if culture and night life etc are a factor go with S.F. or Boston.

What is the best way to get to Port Angeles from Seattle?

I am looking for travel information for my mother, who is 75, needs to travel to Port Angeles from Sacramento. Probably she'll fly to Seattle (or Victoria BC) and take public transportation to Port Angeles. What options are there, and which are the cheapest and most simple? Thank you. What is the best way to get to Port Angeles from Seattle?
The problem is there is no direct flights from Sacramento to Victoria, she would have to go through Victoria, the terminal is outside the city then get a taxi downtown to catch the Coho ferry. Her best option time wise is to land at SeaTac and then go from there. There is no actual public transportation that goes from SeaTac to Port Angeles. She could look into the Greyhound bus as an option from downtown Seattle or even Tacoma. It leaves once or twice a day from Seattle and the first trip is in the morning second in the evening and both take around 3 to 4 hours. It is under $40 for her one way.
Victoria would be a much better option; there's a passenger ferry that runs directly from Victoria to Port Angeles. There are no direct public transportation options between Seattle and Port Angeles. You would have to take a couple of buses to get from Seattle to the ferry dock in Edmonds, and get on the ferry to Kingston. You would have to research how to get to Port Angeles on rural, community bus routes from there. I've seen the buses on the highway, but someone trying to take public bus routes would have to change buses three or four times, and that's only if the various services make connections as the highway heads west along to Strait of Juan de Fuca to Port Angeles. What is the best way to get to Port Angeles from Seattle?
Based on the departures/arrivals list for Victoria BC, that may not be a great option for you - there are flights from San Francisco on some days and Seattle most days, but then you'd still need to arrange ground transport to the ferry terminal and then the ferry ride, plus you'd have to deal with immigration and customs - twice.

Going through Seattle you can fly via Kenmore Air - cost is about $100 each way but will only take about an hour and 15 minutes. You'll need to reconfirm where the Kenmore air flight leaves from (Sea-tac, Boeing Field or their Lake Union Terminal), coordinate the transfer to the correct departure point and leave enough time for the transfer.

    http://www.kenmoreair.com/

Another option is to take the bus from Sea-tac - Olympic Bus lines offers twice daily buses to Port Angeles, and can pick up at Sea-tac. The transit time includes the ferry to the Peninsula, and the total trip is about 3 hours. Cost is $50 one way or $80 round trip.

There are options for the ferries, but the directions for public transit in an unfamiliar city (especially if it's Seattle) could confuse the brightest of us all. I would stick to the shuttle.. or rent a car and pick her up.

What is the best way to find bus routes in greater seattle?

I just moved to Tacoma, Washington and need to use public transportation to get around. What is the best website or free iPhone app I could use to map trips into Seattle and stuff? ThanksWhat is the best way to find bus routes in greater seattle?
Going to Seattle, you're going to be taking the Sounder (unless you want that trip to be at least 2 hrs).

    http://www.soundtransit.org/Schedules/So鈥?/a>

If your destination is in Pioneer Square or anywhere downtown south of say...Madison and west of 3th ave, you can probably hoof it from there (east of 3rd and you're walking up some pretty brutal hills).

For the most part, buses downtown run north and south (they're also free downtown, for now anyway). The train will let you off in the king street station and there are probably a dozen or so buses that you can take through the tunnel system to just about every central location downtown. (pioneer square, business district, westlake, etc)

What would it take for the Cowboys to end up playing Seattle?

If Seattle wins their first game, could they either play the 'Boys or the Packers? What decides it? What circumstances are there in which it is decided who the Hawks will play first? What would it take for the Cowboys to end up playing Seattle?
Seattle would play GB first, since Seattle is the number 3 seed it is impossible they would play Dallas in the 2nd round. If both teams win in the 2nd round, they would meet in the NFc championship..

Infact.. thats what I predict will happen.
no hawks lose first game***What would it take for the Cowboys to end up playing Seattle?
Seattle would have to defeat their wild card opponent and depending on the luck of the draw, my guess is that the Seahawks would end up playing the Packers and another team would wind up playing Dallas.

Let's say, for the sake of arguments, Seattle beats the Packers in one divisional playoff and Dallas beats their opposition in the other divisional playoff, then it would be Seattle against Dallas in the NFCchampionship game.

Hopefully, this will answer your question.
Seattle being the third seed would be bracketed to possibly play Dallas (number one seed) in the conference championship. Though the Seahawks do not receive a first-round bye, the record dictates they will play the wild card team that is seeded sixth in the first round, with Dallas and Green Bay receving byes for next week.
If Seattle wins they play Green Bay. It's based on seedings. Seattle is the 3 and Tampa the 4. Dallas plays the team with the worst record remaining after the first round of games unless it is Washington. You do not play a division opponent in the second round of the playoffs. If the Giants and Redskins (assuming the Redskins make the playoffs) both win in the first round, Dallas would play Washington and New York would play Green Bay. If Washington and Tampa win, Washington would play Green Bay and Dallas would play Tampa (again because for some reason the NFL does not want two teams from the same division playing in the second round unless it can't be avoided such as would be the case if the Giants and Redskins both win)
It would be the pack... The upper seed plays lower seed at home under all circumstances. Since Seattle is in the 3rd spot they will be the top seed in the first week. If they win they are the third best of the remaining teams, and #1 will play #4 at home and #2 will play #3 at home. The better your team finishes reg season the easier their competition is in post season.
The highest remaining seed plays the lowest.

    WC round - 3-6, 4-5

    Div round - 1-low, 2-high

SEA is #3 so they'd only meet DAL in the NFC championship game. And you'll have to see the WAS-DAL game to see if SEA plays WAS or MIN (who I'd think would beat DEN).
"Halfway" is completely wrong. it is all based on seedings, not records or divisions. dallas can only meet seattle in the nfc championship. As the #1 seed, dallas will be rewarded by playing the lowest seed remaining after the first round. this would be either #4 Tampa, #5 giants, or the #6 seed, but it cant be #3 seattle, because the #3 seed would be the "highest" remaining seed. now if both dallas and seattle win their 2nd round games, they would obviously meet in the nfc championship game, at dallas.

  • What is the best way to search for jobs in the Seattle area?

I'm going to be moving to Seattle soon, and I have a friend that moved there only two weeks ago. Both of us are trying to search for jobs, but we just don't know the area yet. What are some of the best ways to find possible jobs? What is the best way to search for jobs in the Seattle area?
    T.D....

A lot of people say craigslist is the way to go but the problem is SO many people search there. The best thing to do is sign up with a few temp agencies and let them do the work. You'll be suprised how quickly they call and place you somewhere. And if you do a good job you might go full time. I know temp work isn't always ideal (no insurance, hourly pay) but a lot of companies are hiring a lot of temps in this economy. So check the link for temp agencies in the Seattle area. Good luck!

I think Dave is absolutely correct. There are very good agencies in the area. Craigslist is very saturated. I posted an ad recently for a temp admin person and got well over 50 responses!!! Best of luck in Seattle!!

I'm just wondering since I live 30 minutes from seattle and I've heard its a good school so I'm probably going to apply there. I am a sophmore currently with a 3.8 to 4.0 gpa, (3.8 last year 4.0 so far this year) and I have a range of extracurriculars. I was hoping to hear some peoples personal stories about their acceptance or lack thereof and their experience at UW if they got in.

Myself and about 10~ others just went to the Golden Gardens beach today in Seattle for a great time, and want to find something to do during spring break that's also a great time. We all live around 20 minutes outside of Seattle but could travel up to maybe 30 minutes. We're all also around 18 years old, so yeah. Any suggestions help! What to do for spring break near Seattle?
Go shopping for a new umbrella.
Its a little further then you want...But go to Vancouver BC, or even Whistler. There are tons of spring breakers there! Grab a hotel, (drinking age is 19 if some of you are that age) and there are lots of clubs and fun places to go there.

Also, if you just want to do something fun %26amp; don't wanna travel far, I would suggest getting a hotel room near the space needle, go see some sights, (EMP, Aquaruim, Pioneer Square, Underground tour, ride the ducks, space needle, ect) and just have a good time and for night time there is a 18 and over club right by the space needle. Enjoy! What to do for spring break near Seattle?
Spring break in Seattle is not very fun. I mean there is not much you can do and most parks and beaches are filled with children. The best bet is a 18 and over club and there is one in Downtown Seattle near Queen Anne.
There are a few clubs in Belleuve, and a Strip Club in Redmond, But for sure there is a great club in Lincoln Square in Belleuve

Seattle MIGHT provide better opportunities than you have in California; HOWEVER, cost of living is a bit on the high side and job opportunities are a bit on the meager side. Not sure this is a good time to make this move. It's worked for some people, but there certainly aren't any guarantees.
cost of living is high, but living right outside the city is cheaper, and very easy access. i have lived in washington my whole life, and i prefer to live in lynnwood area, edmonds, renton, etc. i do work in the city though :)How is the cost of living and job opportunities in Seattle, Washington?
now would be a great time to buy a place because the rates are so low, but not to rent. the job oppurtunities are also a little lacking, but if you have extra money it would be wise to invest in real estate here now
Cost of living isn't too bad compared to CA but jobs are short like most places. You can buy a house under 300K now some places.

What do you think has a better club nightlife, Seattle or San Diego?

I've lived in both and I think Seattle has San Diego beat.

The clubs in Seattle are cheaper to get into, the drinks are cheaper and the women are nicer. The girls Seattle dance more freakier than they do in San Diego. What do you think has a better club nightlife, Seattle or San Diego?

If I work in Seattle and husband works at Ft Lewis where is the best location to live?

I plan to work in the Seattle area and my husband is working on Ft Lewis. What is the best area to live in? Where is the best location to live in regard to the morning commute but is also safe and all around pleasant? Puyallup? If I work in Seattle and husband works at Ft Lewis where is the best location to live?
There is a commuter train that runs from Tacoma through Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn and Kent. It takes an hour from Tacoma and a half hour from Auburn. It drops you off near Qwest Field. Many companies subsidize the train, and the connecting bus you will probably have to take.

If you live in Puyallup, he can take Highway 512 to work, which will save him a lot of time. (It dumps you out near Ft. Lewis and after all the yucky I-5 traffic). You will end up with a longer commute, but you won't have to sit in traffic!!!
puyallup enumclaw tacomaIf I work in Seattle and husband works at Ft Lewis where is the best location to live?
Kent. Then you can take the Sounder train into Seattle, and he will have a 45 minute drive to Fort Lewis. Bear in mind Seattle downtown and Fort Lewis are about 50 miles apart.
Puyallup, Kent, Auburn or Federal Way may work. Tacoma might be an option provided you can find mass transit. For your commute into Seattle I would be looking for something that offers a mass transit option cause that direction will have a heavier commute than your husband's.

  • What is a fun place you can ride to on a ferry from Seattle?

My boyfriend and I want to take a ferry ride from Seattle, but we aren't bringing a car. We'd like to go hiking, or we can bring our bikes and go on a bike ride. So basically the question is whether there is a good place for hiking or bike riding within walking/biking distance of a ferry terminal served by ferries coming from Seattle. I've seen the route maps, but I don't know what's located on the islands where the ferries will take us.What is a fun place you can ride to on a ferry from Seattle?
There's a few of them, i've only been to 2 locations-Bremerton %26amp; Bainbridge...I enjoyed Bremerton better coz when you get off the ferry terminal there it's not crowded like Seattle's...It's a quiet area and quaint places to eat

Howdy! Why not try starting your search here: http://www.salonsinwashington.com/Category/Skin-Care/ There are plenty of shops that sell a good skin care makeup. A good idea would be to have a skin analysis. You'll want to know if you need something hypoallergenic, oil-free, etc...

How much tax will we have to pay on the sale of our main home in Seattle?

We are selling our home in Seattle and relocating to California. The value of our home has risen by more than the $500k exclusion for a married couple, even when we take out expenditure on improvements. Will we have to pay capital gains tax on the extra profit even if we are re-investing in another property in California as our main home? How much tax will we have to pay on the sale of our main home in Seattle?
Because you are married and you both ahve lived in the home you will each be able to exclude $250,000 of the gain from your taxable income, or a total of $500,000. Any gain above this is taxed at 15% for federal taxes and at whatever your state rate is. Not a bad deal.

Reinvesting went away when they did away with once in a lifetime $125,000 exclusion. How much tax will we have to pay on the sale of our main home in Seattle?
Yes...I think they eliminated the roll-over exception.

How hard is it to get a retail job in Seattle?

Planning on moving here but how hard is it to get a retail job without recent experience? I have not had a job since 2002 and even then it was retail. What do people in Seattle look at when hiring?

Can I make it on my own with a retail job?.. Like my own apartment, will jobs here pay enough? How hard is it to get a retail job in Seattle?
Minimum wage is meager. Retail Sales Customer Service jobs, on average will earn you $23,000. You might need two retail jobs because apartments downtown start at about $600 per month, plus utilities are about $175 per month. You might want to house share for about $400, plus utilities.

I would suggest getting someone to share an apartment with you, or plan on getting two jobs. When I worked at McDonald's they let me take home the extra salads if I worked closing shift. Maybe if you wanted food service, you could get food at work.

Good luck! How hard is it to get a retail job in Seattle?
If your clean cut without a criminal background and interview well, you won't have a problem at all. They aren't especially warm to transplants around here, especially at first. It takes awhile to get into the "groove" here. You will feel strange and out of place for awhile, confused even. But after say about four months or so, you will either love it with all your heart like I do, or be like others I've seen that constantly complain about everything and never do quite fit in. Don't expect to bring whatever city you are from with you hear because it won't fly. This city makes you adjust to it. This city is the most beautiful awe inspiring places I've ever been in. It's surreal here at times. Minimum wage here is over nine dollars an hour and places here are very progressive and liberal when it comes to raises and benefits. If you can get in somewhere around here cherish it, and don't leave till you actually find something else or you could be living in limbo for awhile. This is a great city once your in.

How long does it take to get to mexico from seattle?

I want to travel from seattle to mexico next year, does anyone know how long it would take, what bus/coach I can take? bit confused!

Any advice on travelling around america? How long does it take to get to mexico from seattle?
if you want to go bus look up greyhound they have the times you depart and arrive and it will tell you about how many hours it takes. getting around america get a roap map just in case you get lost stay were you feel comfortable always bring more money then you expect to spend umm don't get into trouble and you should be fine
You can get there by walking to the nearest street corner. It should be full of Mexicans trying to steal jobs from American taxpayers.

You do not have to "go" to Mexico. Mexico has come to you.How long does it take to get to mexico from seattle?
If you are going to take a bus I can tell you a trip that far will take several days. For $100 or so more you can fly and enjoy your vacation time in mexico, not on a crowded boring bus ride. Remember there are no bathrooms on busses, you and your bladder are at the mercy of the driver.
Go on Priceline.com or Hotwire.com or some other discount travel site and get an airplane ticket. You should be able to get a round trip ticket for a coulple hundred or so. Probably a decent deal on your hotel too. If you take a greyhound you won't be there for 8 or 10 days, LOL. But I wouldn't take a bus if I could help it. You wouldn't believe some of the people you would meet on a Greyhound bus. But, just so you know, Greyhound buses do have bathrooms in the back, but you don't want to use them!!!

How to get from Seattle to The Gorge(George) Washington?

Me and my brother are planning to go see Dave Matthews in September up at the Gorge in George Washington, and we can get a flight to Seattle.

But we don't have a way to get to the Gorge. Is there any other ways other than renting a car?How to get from Seattle to The Gorge(George) Washington?
No, not really. There is no public transport to the Gorge. You'd have to find a ride or rent a car. Driving time from Seattle is about 3 hours.
The Gorge is literally in the middle of nowhere. I know for the big concerts people find carpools online like in Craigslist or they might have a section on the Gorge's website. Dave Matthews will be a huge concert so it shouldn't be too hard to find. It is probably the prettiest venues you will ever go to, but unless you have a car, you probably won't get there. How to get from Seattle to The Gorge(George) Washington?
I think the Caravan website had something about carpools. Just ask everyone you can online for a ride and offer them money

YES! What are the odds? I just got done meeting with Seth Feldman from Feldman Law, PLLC. He was so attentive to my husband's and my needs, and incredibly sensitive to our family's money problems.

His website is http://www.sdfeldmanlaw.com. But we didn't find him through his website. A couple we know from our church used him and they forwarded us his blog http://www.seattleprobateblog.com. After we read a few of his posts we decided to contact him, and it was so worth it.

A group of us, about 5 to 8 of us, are planning on travelling down to Seattle for a long weekend from Vancouver. (We are Irish and only in Canada a few months so still dont know the transport system off.

So whats best? Plane, rail, bus??? and what would be the cheapest also?

Or any other tips and advise you can give me would be much appreciated?

Oh and happy Canada day!Whats the best %26amp; cheapest way to get from Vancouver to Seattle for a weekend break?
Amtrak Cascades - attached is the site for their timetable. Take a look at this site as they have rail passes available for travel in the United States if you plan to do any more travelling. They also have specials on certain days of the week.

It is much faster and less expensive than busing it. You could try posting a note on Craigslist asking if anyone would be willing to drive you. It is free and won't hurt to try.

If you fly, you will miss the beauty of the trip and won't save very much time.
Quick Shuttle runs services between Seattle and Vancouver with stops including SeaTac Airport and Bellingham.

Cantrail Coach Lines also runs express services between Seattle, Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver.

Both services offer several downtown drop-off points with journeys terminating at Pacific Central Station in Station Street Vancouver.Whats the best %26amp; cheapest way to get from Vancouver to Seattle for a weekend break?
    Probably renting a van.
Bus is cheapest, rail is nicest. Plane is expensive and requires transport to and from the airport.

Is City University of Seattle an accredited college?

I am planning to attend City University of Seattle, have some one attended this university, what are the opinion on this school by employers? Is City University of Seattle an accredited college?
City University of Seattle is regionally accredited.

The School of Business carries second-rate ACBSP accreditation rather than the more prestigious AACSB accreditation.

City University is non-profit, and is far better than the for-profit colleges with which it competes. However, City University started out as a school for "working adults" and has never escaped a reputation for low standards. Is City University of Seattle an accredited college?
City University of Seattle is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, a regional accrediting body approved by the U.S. Department of Education. This college is respected in the business community, as it has been around for more than 30 years and has a track record for producing qualified and well-prepared teachers and working professionals.

For more information on their accreditation you can go to their website at: http://www.cityu.edu/about/profile/accreditation.aspx.

What is the dating scene like in Seattle?

I wanted to know what the dating scene is like in Seattle. I am curious to know because I've heard mixed opinions. On one hand I hear that many women are "anti-fashion" (opposite of Souther California women), men are "wimps". On the other hand I've heard that people are very friendly and open to interracial dating.

Anyways can anyone tell me what the dating scene is like in Seattle? What is the dating scene like in Seattle?
For the most part, I'd say that women here aren't superficial or into fashion. They tend to be more educated, into fitness, and would rather be seen wearing jeans and north face jacket than a skirt.

Then there is the more eclectic, artsy crowd. Perhaps more fashionable, but also more intelligent.

I personally don't think the dating scene here is that great. I think it's much better in other large metropolitan areas that I've been to - like NYC, San Fran and LA.

PS ~ Interracial dating is definitely accepted here.

What are the elite high schools in Seattle?

I'd like to know what are the private elite high schools in Seattle and if possible if there are any boy-girl elite boarding high schools in Seattle. If not, then please if you can, leave names of boy-girl elite boarding high schools in other regions of the USA.What are the elite high schools in Seattle?
The most elite private high school in Seattle, by far, is Lakeside. Other private high schools, which are less prestigious, include: Overlake, Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences (SAAS), University Prep, Northwest School and Bush.

There are no elite boarding schools in Seattle. The closest is Annie Wright, which has only girl boarders and is in Tacoma.

If you throw the question open to the entire country, it gets pretty general. There are, of course, quite a few well-regarded boarding schools in New England. Just to be glaringly obvious: Andover, Exeter, Choate ....

How is the Seattle Chicago game even close?

Chicago has Jay Cutler and Matt Forte out, while Seattle has Marshawn Lynch is hot and has Tavaris Jackson improving dramatically with a recieving corps putting up big numbers. I say Chicago can't stop Lynch (Baltiimore with a much better defense couldn't stop him either) and he rushes for over 100 yards and 2 TDs. He helps Jackson with play action and he passes for 200 yards and a TD. Seattle's tallented D shuts down Hanie, and holds Barber to around 50 yards. Seattle wins big, 27-3.How is the Seattle Chicago game even close?
It isnt even close. Because Culter is there main qb and forte is a key player. and Seattle has a better chance of wiinnning this game.
Because Seattle sucks. The only reason they've won their last two is because they play against bad teams. Considering the most points the Bears defense has given up all season is 30 and that too to one of the best offenses in the NFL in the Saints, the Seahawks offense has no chance to score anywhere near 27 points against them. However, they may win if the Bears offense continues to turn the ball over too much and play poorly. Don't kid yourself into thinking the Seahawks are any good though. How is the Seattle Chicago game even close?
Chicago at home in December is never an easy game. Defense for the Bears will make a big difference here aginst the Seahawks who will have a hard time scoring. I see a Bears home win in a low scoring game.

    Bears 20

    Seahawks 17

    http://www.football-free-picks.com/2011-…
LOL Ravens have a better defense? The only 2 guys I know are Ray lewis and Reed boy. We got urlacher, peppers, briggs, tillman, and jennings. Sure we lost cutler and forte for a while and there has been mistakes but seahaws, just no. As hardcore as those last names sound, the players live up to them. Seahawks on the other side............ Just because players are hot doesn't mean that no one can stop them. Tebow was hot right? We forced so man 3 and outs last week in bears at broncos. We could have won but Hanie couldn't pull through.
    2 reasons...

    1. Playing late season in Chicago is tough.

    2. Chicago still has a great defenese

I'm not saying Seattle cant win this game. But it has the feeling of a close game to be. And believe it or not, the guys in Vegas know more then you.

Should there be a railroad train tunnel from Australia to Seattle for folks who have a fear of flying?

With bullet trains becoming more popular all the time, and these "mag-lev" trains of the future still being developed, don't you people think that someday there will be a gigantic tunnel for high speed trains that runs through the Pacific Ocean? They already have one between Great Britain and France, right? In my vision, this amazing railroad of the future would run (at about 423 miles per hour) between Sydney, Australia and Seattle, Washington, with a lovely 1-day stopover in Hawaii. Free hula dance shows, the works.Should there be a railroad train tunnel from Australia to Seattle for folks who have a fear of flying?
Flying bites, so a nice train ride would be great. But the speed could be much greater, even faster than a plane... A plane is limited by it's speed through the atmosphere, a large plane with a meaningful passenger carrying capacity is limited by aerodynamic drag. There's the "space hop" option, where the plane would skip along the top of the atmosphere, avoiding drag and able to fly much faster, but still not as comfortable as a train.

Think 5,000 mph! Create a vacuum inside the train tunnel, no aerodynamic drag, and maglev propulsion. Fantastically expensive, but in some future with near unlimited energy and will, it is theoretically possible.

    See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vactrain
It's a nice flight of fancy, but not realistic.

The Discovery channel did a extreme engineering show on the possibility of a transatlantic tunnel - a much shorter trip. The show estimated that it would take a Billion tons of steel and 12 Trillion dollars. Your Aussie tunnel would cost say, 50 Trillion; or the Gross National product of the entire world 2 times over. I do not think it will happen. Much more likely, there would be a tunnel connecting Australia and Indonesia; then a land route all the way to the Bering strait.

Keep dreaming...Should there be a railroad train tunnel from Australia to Seattle for folks who have a fear of flying?
In fact, such a tunnel is well under way. It will link up with the Sydney-Tokyo super-tunnel and the Perth-London AquaTrain. Once the New York-London AtlanTrak is complete in 2011, you will be able to circle the globe by train.

Seattle was chosen because of the close cultural affinity between Washington State and New South Wales.
You do realize how hard that would be to stretch a single underwater train tunnel all the way across the Pacific Ocean don't you?
    hahahahaha so funny

How old must one be to be considered a 'full price adult' when buying a Seattle Mariners ticket?

  • How many jobs did Obamas Green Energy policy create in Seattle at the cost of $20 million dollars?

Obama spent $20 million dollars on Green Energy in Seattle.

How many jobs did it make?

And since he had to print $20 million dollars to create them how many jobs did he cause to be destroyed? How many jobs did Obamas Green Energy policy create in Seattle at the cost of $20 million dollars?
Apparently you don't seem to understand that when a grant is awarded, the money isn't spent instantaneously.

The money hasn't been spent yet.

    Obama isn't personally spending anything.

    Obama doesn't print money.

Your entire premise sounds like it's based on ignorance.... and if you brought it up because you heard it on Rush's show, then it's almost definitely based on misinformation and ignorance.
It is still a work in progress.

The $20 million federal grant runs through 2013 – more than two years from now. The program aims to provide energy upgrades to more than 2,200 buildings, mostly single-family homes, in downtown, central, and southeast Seattle. The work will create or preserve significant numbers of good, green jobs over the life of the grant.

Seattle’s program is showing great promise. Four hospitals and 19 city buildings are already on the rolls for upgrades. Just four months into the Community Power Works for Home effort more than 350 homeowners have signed up for the program and momentum is building. Major projects scheduled for this fall will employ graduates from the Seattle Vocational Institute and South Seattle Community College. How many jobs did Obamas Green Energy policy create in Seattle at the cost of $20 million dollars?
Let's see--14 jobs, most of them "administrative", three houses completed, 20 MILLION dollars. Wow! GRRRRRRREAT use of money, huh?

20 MILLION taxpayer dollars and THREE housel completed. Defend this abomination.
Green energy's purpose isn't to create jobs moron.
Rush is dead wrong, as usual.
14, I listen to Rush too.
how can obama be printing so much money and have so much debt still?

15 1/2 to get a permit (must take written test)

16 to get license if all requirements are fulfilled
To legally practice driving before taking your driver license test, you must have an instruction permit.

If you are enrolled in a driver鈥檚 education class, you can get an instruction permit when you are 15, if you apply for the permit no more than 10 days before the class starts.

If you are not enrolled in a driver鈥檚 education class, you can get a permit when you are 15陆 or older, if you pass the knowledge test.

What is the average water/sewer/garbage bill for a Seattle household?

Also, what is the average electric bill?

I'm thinking of buying a condo, and I can't find this anywhere on seattle.gov. You think they'd have something like that. What is the average water/sewer/garbage bill for a Seattle household?
Call the power co. and trash service co. in the area and ask them. They could even tell you the specific info of the bldg you are looking at.

Moving from Chicago to Seattle. Do I need to pay tax on my car on registration?

I am soon moving from Chicago to Seattle. I bought a car one month back and got it registered in Chicago(paid all taxes). Do I need to pay sales tax again, once I register it in Washington?

My friend told me that as per Washington law, I must have bought the car at least 3 month before moving into Washington, to avoid paying sales tax. Not sure?Moving from Chicago to Seattle. Do I need to pay tax on my car on registration?
I would definitely be talking to the deptartment of motor vehicles to double check the laws on this one. And make sure you have ALL of the paperwork from the purchase of your vehicle.

I think you will need to prove that you paid sales tax in Chicago or it will have to be paid here. Because Washington state has a somewhat high sales tax and two neighboring states have none (Oregon and Alaska), it is tempting for many people to want to buy their vehicles out of state, pay no sales tax and then bring them here and register then.

So call the DMV and explain your situation. They should be able to tell you exactly what you'll need to do to register your vehicle here when you arrive, and what it will cost. I had a somewhat unusual situation when I registered my vehicle here 15 years ago, and they were very helpful!Moving from Chicago to Seattle. Do I need to pay tax on my car on registration?
I dont know about sales tax but you are going to have to pay registration tax since you will have to register the car as a washington vehicle. Your best bet is to call the Seattle Vehicle Licensing Place here is a link to all of them with their phone numbers.

How to dress in Seattle for a rainy Summer?

Going to Seattle in a few days coming from hot California weather. Im already wearing tank tops and sleeveless shirts and hate to not be able to show off my new tan. On top of that it might rain the whole time I'm there (first week of June). Is it too cold to wear tank tops there? How to dress in Seattle for a rainy Summer?
Layer!! It starts out cold -- and I mean cold -- but gets quite warm by about 3:00 p.m. after the cloud layer has burned off. It's been absolutely beautiful in the afternoons here for about the last week, defintely tank top weather. It's been saying 60s, but it's actually getting up to about 70 by 5:00. But like I said, you'd think we were in the middle of winter when you walk out in the morning. And when they say rain up here, it's not a steady rain all day. It's kind of just hit and miss showers. Nothing you'd even need an umbrella for.

Update: Local news weather: rainy days will be Tuesday and Friday this week. Other than that, hit and miss showers and upper 60s, 70. (I know it sounds a little chilly coming from S. Cal, but when the sun comes out it feels really warm.) Next weekend is supposed to be sunny. Also remember the weather changes dramatically by location around here. Olympia is generally warmer in the summer and colder in the winter than Seattle. North of Seattle has the "convergence zone," so they get a lot more rain. If you go over the pass to Eastern Washington, they're much warmer in the spring/summer. And if you go out to the coast...bring sweats! Ocean Shores is COLD and even in the middle of summer extremely windy. Oh, how I miss Newport Beach!!!

This is kind of funny. This news anchor just told the weather guy that he just came up with five different ways to say that it could possibly rain a little bit where you are. That's our weather in a nutshell.
i'm from scorching hot california too , i'm from So. Cal and i know what you mean i'm a breathtless hiker and backpacker , and i'm always weraing tank tops , a very short blue jeans skirt , and leather flip flops an i've got a wonderfull tan too , thank-fully i'm on a swim-team atleast i can cool of , and sure i'll help i'm going the second week of june to seattle and i know that on my account it's gonna be raining there , i say i'd wear my tank-top for one day in the pouring rain to cool of , but i suggest first seeing how you feel i'm not going to be staying in the city i'm headin to seattle to pick up a good friend but i'll stay one day so we can have a fun time walking in the rain and go into different clothing stores and get some warm tea to heat up , but for the next week were headin of camping in mount rainer and some other state parks tha will deffinatley leave us breathtless after our hikes , for you i recommend maybe wearing a nice warm sweater or hoodie , and maybe wearing some nice cute shorts to match , so you can keep warm , another idea is to wear leggins on your legs and nice warm top , see what works out , but i don't want you getting a cold ! have fun ! good luck !How to dress in Seattle for a rainy Summer?
Contrary to what some have said, it DOES rain most of the time. I have lived here for about 200 days and MAYBE 5 have been sunny. Most of the country is sunny and WARM and here it is not even 60, cloudy, rainy, awful. I don't know why people get so defensive about this place and try to LIE and say it is great. We trusted a realtor and believed his lies and now are stuck in this horrid place!!!
I live where it's a little rainier, up north. I wear tanks like everyday in the summer, just make sure you have a hoodie and a back-up coat. Sometimes skirts/shorts aren't smart to wear, but I'd pack some and decide wth whatevr the given weather is!
When it rains up there it's usually a "cold" rain so need to dress warmly. Also, if you've been in So. California for a while to become climatized you will definetly feel the coolness.
I live in the area and wear tank tops all the time. I dress how ever I want and just throw on a jacket if it gets a little cold.
Geez, aren't we full of ourselves! You might think you look hot now but that "sexy" tan won't be so sexy when you're a bit older and it turns to wrinkles or cancer.

It "might rain the whole time I'm there?" I guess you've never been to Seattle, eh? Let me educate you about Seattle summers. And about Seattle in general. It DOESN'T rain all the time. We actually have an average of 200 clear days per year and summer's are especially dry - sometimes even drought conditions. So you can leave your foul weather gear and umbrella at home.

What is the cleanest and most respectable tattoo shop in Seattle, WA?

im looking for the names of clean, respectable tattoo shops in Seattle.

also amazing artists (preferably asian artwork)

websites, names of artists.. pics of work you have gotten done? What is the cleanest and most respectable tattoo shop in Seattle, WA?
Probably best to just visit a few shops yourself, check out their work (or online if they have a site), and look at how they run their shop... you could probably even talk to some of their clients... You can get a list of shops that are in seattle at this site: http://findtattooshops.com ... I've used it a few times and it's pretty good... Probably want to call the phone number they have listed before you drive to the shop though... Just to make sure the place is still in business and that the site got the number right.

What is the weather really like in Seattle?

One of my friends is thinking of moving to Seattle. She suffers from seasonal affective disorder. How much is she likely to suffer in Seattle? What is the weather really like in Seattle?
during spring, fall and winter, there is a lot of grey in the sky because weather fronts have trouble getting past the Cascade Mountains causing clouds to hang around for days producing drizzle and light rain with the sun occasionally breaking through, but it remains quite cloudy and SAD is a concern around here...

I did some research to answer a similar question last night and so I think it it may depend on where your friend lives now on how much SAD might affect her here...

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

there are some other good answer about the Seattle weather there too!
seattle will be a great place! the weather in the winter is very, very cold though. it's about 45 degrees on average in december and january. it rains the most then too. from january on, the temperature just builds up gradually to about 75 degrees in the summer, which actually is PERFECT weather. not to hot, and not too cold! but it will still rain about an inch during the summer every month. What is the weather really like in Seattle?
I have to agree with everyone else.

Unless she is coming from Alaska, If she currently suffers from SAD it is likely that moving to Seattle will make it worse.

The combination of northern latitude, clouds and rain from September until March can make for a long dark winter.
Seattle has a relatively mild climate. Cold, grey and rainy in the winters and springs; not too warm in the summers and tapering from that back to cold, grey and rainy through the fall. This year, we've had a really long winter and spring - summer has been slow coming and we broke a record with how many days it took for the temperature to go over 75. Last summer, though, we had quite a stretch of days over 90 and into the 100's. And a couple of years ago, we got nearly a foot of snow, but that's practically unheard of.

As for SAD? If she's coming from a different climate that affords her more sunshine, she might re-consider. While it's not as bad here as people might make you think, it is still greyer and rainier than some other places.
Depends on where she's coming from. There are worse places to live, SAD is a big problem, not so much because of lack of daylight hours but from the zillion days a year where the sun never pops thru the clouds.
Well it doesnt snow much here, but it rains all the time hopefully that doesnt affect her disorder.
Though not as bad as places further north, SAD is a problem here.

How accepting will Seattle be of people with a Southern accent?

I know that Seattle is a city on the move and is a popular destination on the west coast for twenty-something dwellers and yuppies. I'm more interested in Seattle than any place in the U.S. west of the continental divide because of its culture, architecture, climate (the temperatures, not the mist,) parks, etc.

As silly as this may seem, will I be laughed at or looked down upon in Seattle for having a Southern accent? (I am from Kentucky.) It's noticeable, but not thick, similar to that of Mike Huckabee.

Thank you!How accepting will Seattle be of people with a Southern accent?
Hmm... I think it will be a hoot. I don't think it you'll be laughed at or considered a hillbilly.

I guess it just depends upon how sensitive you are.
I live about 400 miles from Seattle. My fiance %26amp; I visit Seattle quite a bit, he has a chinese accent, and no one made fun of him. People in Seattle are usually pretty accepting of all people. Occassionally you'll get the select few, but most people are really nice. If you get a chance check out Seattle Center, and the Woodland Park Zoo. Good luck, it's a beautiful city, and the Seahawks games are incredible. Hope this helps you out.How accepting will Seattle be of people with a Southern accent?
People in Seattle are mostly nice and we are used to diversity. Of course, there are a few jerks around but, aren't they everywhere? You'll be fine unless you make a big deal about it.
Your new Seattle friends will probably tease you for it a bit. But it would most likely be in fun.

This is a diverse city, with lots of people from other places who have accents.

Come out for a visit and check us out! Hopefully you'll be happy with what you see and with the way the locals treat you.
My sister-in-law moved here from Virginia 30+ years ago, and she is very happy here. She could have left anytime and has not. She has many friends and family. My daughter-in-law is from Arkansas. Everyone that meets her falls in love with her (she is very sweet and considerate).

I'm not going to say that no one will be an inconsiderate slob and not be a jerk, but most will not. Remember that not everyone that lives here is from here!!!
I'm originally from Texas, so I have a bit of an accent, and I have lived near Seattle for two years. To date, I don't think I've had more than a handful of people mention my accent (although mine is not terribly noticiable unless I go back home for a visit %26lt;grin%26gt;). I'd definitely say this is a great place to visit, although it's good to REALLY like wet weather if you plan on living here ;-)
For the most part, people won't make fun of your accent. We're not as uptight as people in the Northeast, and unless you say something completly off the wall or absure nobody will really say anything. The good thing about that is it will be a conversation starter for many people around here. It has been mentioned many times that we are pleasant in Seattle, but maybe hard to meet people around here. If anything your accent might get you better luck in the social scene around here.
I agree with joeluw1977. Rather than make fun of your accent, I think most people who notice it will be more curious about where you have come from....great conversation starter. My mother in law is from Tennessee and visits here in the Pacific NW often. Not a soul has made fun of her accent, but we do love to hear some of the sayings that are typical of the south and really foreign to us....great for lots of laughs, but all in fun. You'll be just fine - don't worry. The people who count are going to like you for you ....speech doesn't matter.
Seattle's a place with a lot of diversity, so I don't think it'll be a problem. Once you make friends with some people, they might give you a little gentle teasing, but nothing's going to happen like people beating you up when they hear you "tawk." :-)

Northwesterners in general, and Seattlites in particular, are a pretty laid-back lot. (Unless we're stuck in traffic, that is. %26lt;%26lt;sigh%26gt;%26gt;) As long as you don't go out of your way to make trouble, you shouldn't have any trouble.

One other thing, though: If you make it up the hills and to Darrington at the foot of the Cascades, you'll just about fit right in. A good portion of the people who originally settled in Darrington were from North Carolina, which of course is not the same as Kentucky, but makes Darrington the most Southern town in Washington.

How much money would it take if u took a plane from Seattle to China?

What is the best way to get from the Seattle airport to Victoria island bc?

I want to travel from Kansas City MO and Southwest has great flights...how do I get from the Seattle airport to Victoria Island? How many airlines that go there?

I would like to know of experiences of others so I don't make a mistake..What is the best way to get from the Seattle airport to Victoria island bc?
I think you mean Vancouver Island, which contains the city of Victoria. Depends what you mean by best. Fastest and simplest is to fly from Seattle to Victoria but it's expensive and will probably negate all the savings you made by flying Southwest to Seattle, but try Alaska Airlines. The Victoria clipper isn't cheap either(min $100 each way), and you have to get from the airport to the clipper as well, probably $45 each way. Best in terms of price and simplicity in my opinion would be to take a Quick Shuttle bus out of Seatac to Vancouver airport, then take a Pacific Coach Lines bus from there to Victoria. Bus goes right on the ferry with you. Total round trip fare for that route will be about $170. Both buses go fairly often which makes figuring it out easier, but it will take you at least 6 hours to get from Seatac to Victoria going that way.

If the city of Victoria is not your final destination on Vancouver Island, other ways might be better.
To begin with it's Vancouver Island, not Victoria Island. Victoria is a city on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

You can fly from Seattle to either Victoria or Nanaimo via Horizon Air. You can take a sea plane (Kenmore Air) from Lake Washington (in Seattle) to Victoria's inner harbour. There is also a ferry service called the Clipper that goes from downtown Seattle to Victoria.

As a last resort you could take a commercial bus from Seattle to Vancouver then a bus from Vancouver to either Victoria or Nanaimo. What is the best way to get from the Seattle airport to Victoria island bc?
SeaTac to Chek Lap Kok Airport. Victoria Island is in Hong Kong SAR. If you mean the City of Victoria on Vancouver Island, you can take Horizon Air (part of Alaskan Airlines). However, the flight is very expensive (around $400 return). Better to take the Victoria Clipper (high speed catamaran) for a wonderful waterborne trip.
It's Vancouver island. The city is Victoria, but it is located on Vancouver Island. There are lots of ways to get there - you can fly (Victoria has a major airport) or you can rent a car and take the ferry that goes from Seattle to Victoria. Or you can take a bus from Seattle to Victoria.
The best way is take the Victoria Clipper at Pier 69 Waterfront. It will take 2 and half hours to arrive Victoria BC from Seattle. Please go check out the website they have all the necessary information.

It's way better than taking a plane.
Do a yahoo search for the "Victoria Clipper". It will take you right to downtown Victoria.

The Alaska Marine Highway runs from Bellingham to Ketchikan and other points along the coast and out into the Aleutians. It's run by the state, not fancy but it does the job.

Bellingham to Juneau is $326 one way. Since it takes about two days, you might want to pay $74 for a roomette. There are occasional specials. See the web site below for details.

To get from Seattle to Bellingham you can take the bus or the train.

How realistic is the merger between Mercy West and Seattle Grace on Grey's Anatomy?

I know most of the show is total rubbish, but I was just wondering how realistic the merger was? Do hospitals ever actually merge like that? And if it was Seattle Grace that ran out of money and its reputation, why did they get to stay and the other people had to come to them? And what about the hospital the Mercy West people are leaving, and all the equipment and beds and stuff - isn't that a huge financial loss? They are wasting an entire building and loads of equipment etc. - is this just total crap, or is there a good reason I'm just missing? How realistic is the merger between Mercy West and Seattle Grace on Grey's Anatomy?
to be frank, who really cares, the most accurate thing you said was '' ...this is just total crap'', have you nothing better to distract you from reality?

to answer your question, grace and mercy are a comfortable mix, anatomy, grey or otherwise, has nothing to do with it.

How easy or difficult is it to move to Seattle?

I am from Miami and currently live in Jackson, MS, I want to move to Seattle and wonder how relocation might be. Social life and employment. Anyone can give me some advice? How easy or difficult is it to move to Seattle?
It depends. Seattle is a great city, it really is. But it's a different lifestyle then it is in the South.

I know this because I have visited Mississippi, Alabama, Florida numerous times. I have family there.

Anyways, it's alot different. Seattle is known for what's called "The Seattle Chill". People are quite reserved....and may come off as cold. It makes it kinda hard to meet people, at first. But I swear, people warm up and you can still meet people. You just have to know this. I've met alot of great people in Seattle. You just have to be actively involved....and well if your liberal that helps.

Employment is not terrible. It's alot better then most cities. So you've got that. I know that the Seattle job market is just going to improve too, as the years go on. Seattle is a very self-efficient city as well.
well i read an article here on yahoo a couple months ago that seattle was voted the best for jobs right now with the least unemployment and the highest number of job openings. a downfall will be the cost of living its one of the costliest cities in the us with an average rent 1500.00 but if that's no concern you will defiantly love the sightsHow easy or difficult is it to move to Seattle?
Unemployment is around 9%, better than most states. The weather is nice year round. Some people complain that is rains a lot, but the stats say otherwise. It's safe and good place for singles (read on the internet). But cost of living is just a little high.

I'm in Atlanta and so sick of it. I'm also considering Seattle or maybe San Diego. I have to find a good paying job first.

    Good luck.
As of June WA was 29th in unemployment rates. Unemployment has gone down a bit, but it's still around 9%. Social life depends on what you like to do. There is quite a variety. As for advice, plan on trying to fit in.

  • What is the cost of living like in the Seattle area?

My company is moving to Bellevue, which is just outside of Seattle, WA. We are currently in Durham, NC. Does anyone know the cost of living comparisons for these areas? My fiance (who works there too) and I are trying to decide if we should move with the company or just accept our fate and look for a new job. What is the cost of living like in the Seattle area?
My husband and I just moved to Seattle last year from Tucson. It鈥檚 pricier than Tucson for the same size home in Seattle proper. If you live in the outskirts it can be cheaper, but we found it worth it to live in the city itself. Tucson had a pretty inexpensive cost of living though, so I鈥檓 not sure how you鈥檇 see it comparatively. I鈥檓 not familiar with Durham.

Unfortunately for you, Bellevue tends to be pricey. If you鈥檙e planning on having kids, though, those are some of the best schools in the country. You could live in a nearby community over on the east side of the lake and like it. You could move into Bellevue when you do have kids.

When we moved up here people warned us that we鈥檇 be in a small apartment or outside the city of Seattle. We thought we鈥檇 have to forgo either a two-car garage or location, but we actually found a house in the city that we really like with the garage and a finished basement. My husband walks to work downtown. People will make it sound like doom and gloom, but it鈥檚 not.

There are a lot of pluses to this town that I never would have thought of that make it worth a whole lot more than the small difference we鈥檙e paying for the house. The heating is less here than the cooling was in Tucson. There are a lot more entertainment choices that are around the same price. Groceries are about the same. You can get more and cheaper fresh fruits here. The farmers鈥?markets are great. There are a lot of Asian restaurant options as well as a lot of other foods. We haven鈥檛 really attempted to find good Mexican food yet. Public transportation is way way better here. The library system is better here. Everything else seems comparable to Tucson except that getting avocados out of season is a bit higher.

I think it all depends on whether you can afford the housing. Everything else evens out or ends up a plus for Seattle and it鈥檚 surrounding towns. So, you may want to start looking on Craig鈥檚 List and some realty sites for housing prices. Here is one that we used as well as Craig鈥檚 List. I鈥檓 not sure which one we got our place from.

    http://marketplace.nwsource.com/rentals/

I found the book below helpful when it was recommended to me, and I鈥檇 already been here a while. I wish I鈥檇 had it when I was first moving up here. It includes information on several surrounding towns including Bellevue. If you decide to come up here, you鈥檒l love it. Take advantage of all the town has to offer as you can.

If you鈥檙e going through this stuff and have any questions about neighborhoods or if you just want to talk with someone who made the move recently, let me know. I鈥檒l be happy to help.

    Cheers!
    Cyndy
Less expensive than California, more expensive than Spokane or the midwest. More expensive than Durham. Attached is a link to a cost of living comparison.

Terrible traffic due to few possible ways around lakes. But people are friendly and there is a lot of natural beauty. The infrastructure is designed to bring people downtown but then Microsoft and others set up shop in Redmond east of downtown.

Bellevue is nice, not downtown. It is sort of high end--clean and modern, with very little crime. It is close to Redmond and all the tech jobs so there should be some good alternative jobs nearby if yours doesn't work out. Summers are nice and sunny, it is just winter that gets cloudy and rainy.

Keep in mind that there is no state income tax in Washington. That can save you quite a bit. What is the cost of living like in the Seattle area?
Seattle has lot more expensive homes than bellevue. If your office is going to be in bellevue then you could look forward to stay in bellevue or the other nearby areas like Factoria, Bothell, Redmond etc. All them are having nice communities. There are only two major freeways which joins seattle with Bellevue. One is I-90 and another is SR 520. Most of the commute happens on SR 520. This freeways is jam most of the time as I do travel on this freeway everyday. I think you should consider this if you are planning to have home in seattle as most of your time would go in travelling.
I lived in the Triangle for awhile working for IBM. So, I think I some idea on what I am talking about.

I think the cost of housing will be the big shock. In Raleigh-Durham you can get a big house on a big lot for half a million dollars. In Seattle, you can get a small house on a tiny lot (not much bigger than the house) for the same amount of money.

If you have no children and don't plan on any soon, I would suggest living in the city of Seattle and doing the reverse commute. Bellevue is a very safe and clean suburb, it's also rather snobby and soulless. Kirkland is very nice and close to Bellevue; if you are looking for life in the suburbs with a little more lawn and house than in the city. It just depends on you taste and budget.

Most of the time I don't recommend that people move to Seattle on Y!A (generally they are 19-20 yr. olds with no job, money or skills) With a guaranteed job, I would urge you to take a look at Seattle.

Below are links to the two big Seattle real estate companies.
This one breaks down and compares each item with a lot of detail:

Seattle is a nice place to live. It is not as expensive as California and other states.
I always use this site to compare places when looking to move

    http://www.bestplaces.net/col/
Most things will be a little more expensive. BUT, expect sticker shock when it comes to housing. Seattle's Housing COL index is over twice Durham鈥檚! There are very few markets in the US right now that are experiencing increasing real estate prices. Seattle, Portland, (and Charlotte) are 3. Most everyone else is suffering from declining home prices. I hope Durham mirrors Charlotte in this for your sake...

What would you put in a Seattle survivor kit?

My boyfriend is moving to Seattle and for Valentine's day I want to make him a Seattle Survivor kit. Some pieces are serious and some just silly. I have a few ideas but I was hoping to get some creativity from you fine folks. What would you put in it?What would you put in a Seattle survivor kit?
Sunglasses and suntan lotion, coffee mug, Gortex jacket, rain gear, rain hat, a sun lamp, a map of Seattle (free from the Visitor's bureau or print off with you computer if you don't have time to have one mailed to you) http://www.visitseattle.org/Essentials/S鈥?/a> a guide book to attractions, Seattle Magazine: http://www.seattlemag.com/. DVDs of movies or TV shows set in Seattle: http://www.squidoo.com/quiz-how-much-do-鈥?/a> , Mariners or Seahawks team caps or shirts and here is a link that might give you more ideas: http://www.squidoo.com/visit-seattle-was鈥?/a>
Rain jacket! It rains a decent amount here, but more people wear rain jackets than use umbrellas. The weather around here really isn't that harsh...winters get to around 30 degrees, summers to a high of around 80 to 90. Big earthquakes are rare here, so I wouldn't really worry about that.

If he likes hiking or being in the outdoors, some of that gear would also be good. There are a ton of great hiking and camping spots around here. Biking is also really popular and Seattle is a very bike-friendly city.

Coffee mug / tumbler would also be good - there is a coffee shop around every corner and most of them give you discounts if you bring in your own cup. Two or three Starbucks in one shopping center isn't uncommon here. What would you put in a Seattle survivor kit?
    Hi,

    Funny question.

Creditcard, mobile phone, coupon codes, keys of chocolate!

Some cash money: only dollar cents.....

    Regards,

A coffee mug for starters, A gortex jacket, a polar fleece. some gorp. On a serious note Seattle does get earthquakes so you may want to add stuff for an emergency kit

What time should we leave to san diego from seattle?

my fiance and our daughter are leave from port orchard (across the water from we seattle) to san diego. We want to make the best of our time because our daughter is 2 and we want to make it a fast drive down there. What time should we leave to avoid rush hours, in what cities, and is there any other road that arent as bad as I-5?What time should we leave to san diego from seattle?
I-5 is the shortest and fastest route to take. You know when rush hours are in Seattle. In Los Angeles it used to be that if you hit it before 3:30 pm you could make decent time. It's not that way anymore. The parking lots start developing around 2pm now and you will have heavy traffic all the way into San Diego. There's really no way to avoid it.

Try to figure hitting north Los Angeles about 3am. That will put you in San Diego at 6am. and you will miss the southland commute.
I think this is a crazy schedule but you would miss most of the traffic jams:

If you leave Kitsap county around 2 AM and drive over the Tacoma narrows bridge it would get you into Los Angeles at 8PM - when the evening rush hour is dying and into San Diego around 10PM in time to collapse for the evening.

I-5 is the only way to go quickly South from the Seattle area - there are no alternatives.

I have done many a long distance drive leaving in the middle of the night with sleeping kids in the back. What time should we leave to san diego from seattle?
Well the main cities your going to hit traffic in are L.A., Portland, OR, and Seattle.

Its about 20 hours of driving, good solid driving. So I would leave San Diego in the morning so you can drive through North Cali throughout the day and through Oregon and Washington during the night so you avoid traffic.

Please becareful on the Oregon and Washington parts of I-5. They can be very long and straight and its very easy to fall asleep at the wheel.

Where is the best/biggest outlet mall located in Seattle Washington?

My mom, my sister, my best friend and I are going to seattle at the end of this month. The main thing we're planning to do is SHOP! So we are looking for the best deals possible! My other friend just went and they got some really awesome deals! So please help.Where is the best/biggest outlet mall located in Seattle Washington?
The one at the Tulalip Casino is, I believe, the biggest one and I believe most people would consider the mix of retailers the "best," though that's obviously subjective.

Its official name is "Seattle Premium Outlets," though that's somewhat misleading as it's about 40 miles north of downtown Seattle, on I-5.

A somewhat closer one that's not as big or as nice to walk around, and has more "everyday" retailers, is in North Bend. Both are actually run by the same national company - Chelsea Premium Outlets. I've included a link to the company's website, which has directions and store lists, below.

If you're not looking specifically for an *outlet* mall, but just a nice shopping mall:

    - Near Seattle:

    Bellevue Square

    Southcenter

    Northgate

    - Right in downtown Seattle:

Pacific Place / Westlake Mall / Nordstrom flagship store / Macy's fall across several contiguous downtown blocks, and are easy enough to walk around that you can more-or-less treat them like one big mall.
Westfield mall, formerly southcenter mall. It's huge. You'll spend at least 3 hours in there plus they have an imax theater in there.Where is the best/biggest outlet mall located in Seattle Washington?
I'd say the westlake center, there's so much there!
