Fans Filing Lawsuit Against Owners Of Sonics, Storm

SEATTLE -- Fans are filing a lawsuit a lawsuit against the owners of the Sonics and Storm basketball teams, claiming they were tricked into buying season tickets, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Fans said they feel betrayed by the recent actions of the teams’ owners, including a statement by one owner that the intention had always been to move the team to Oklahoma City as well as the recent act of filing for arbitration to break the lease that keeps the teams in Seattle until 2010.

The founder of the organization Save Our Sonics, Brian Robinson, helped facilitate the lawsuit, though he is not part of it.

“The purpose is to demand fair treatment and demand honesty,” said Robinson.

Fans cite the promise the Sonics’ Web site makes to season ticket holders – “a three-year guaranteed cost certainty that extends through the 2009-10 season.”

“The team, when they are asking for money, when they were petitioning their season ticket holders, made a very clear and unambiguous promise, a guarantee that was very strongly worded,” said Robinson.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit accuse the Sonics of breach of contract, intentional misrepresentation and violating the Washington Consumer Protection Act.

“I feel betrayed by the ownership. When I got my season ticket packet from the Sonics, I felt that they were going to make a true effort to keep these teams in Seattle. They have not,” said plaintiff Carolyn Bechtel.

With the city’s lawsuit to keep the Sonics at KeyArena, the lawsuit is the second legal action against the teams’ owners this week.
I think it's better if after the Nets go to Brooklyn in '10, then the Sonics should come to Jersey, and in Oklahoma City should have a team called the Oaks. Are the Seattle Supersonics moiving to Oklahoma City? What have been the latest updates?
I never heard about that but I stopped watching the NBA 10 years ago. I hope they stay just because it sucks when you're team leaves, I know from experience with the Browns. Maybe they can just add another team and put that in Oklahoma City.
Rumors have fallen off. I don't believe they'll go through wit it.
As of now it's hard to tell if the Sonics are moving to Oklahoma City.

There are numerous lawsuits being filed against the Sonics ownership group about them leaving.

Even though Key Arena (where the Sonics play) is a little over 10 years old supposedly there are talks to build a new arena about 30 miles south of Seattle on or near the Muckleshoot Indian reservation near their casino.

It would be a bad business move for the NBA since Oklahoma City is a smaller television market than Seattle. The NBA just had the lowest rated Finals in many years and I don't think this move would be help.
