Where can I buy stinging nettles (for cooking) in Seattle?

Mario Batali has a great recipe for stinging nettle tagliatelle with sausage and kale. I make it with other types of tagliatelle because I don't know where to find stinging nettles.

Any idea where I can find stinging nettles in Seattle?Where can I buy stinging nettles (for cooking) in Seattle?

If you live in Seattle (like me), you must live within shouting distance of a farmers' market. Mine is the Columbia City one, which alas only operates from spring to fall, but lots of the others (West Seattle, University District to name two) are open year-round.

If you don't have any luck at a farmers' market right now (though I'm betting you will), just be patient and wait until late spring. Things always taste better when they're in season, anyway. The stall at the Columbia City market that stocks stinging nettles, and lots of other good stuff, is called Foraged and Found Edibles, and they're there every year, starting some time in May.

Buon appetito!
There is a shop in Pike Place Market...just north of Jack's Fish and across the alley from the Pink Door...it specializes in ethnic foods, specifically South American and Mexican, and maybe they would have what you're looking for. Sorry I don't know the name of the place.
You can find nettles just about anywhere during summer! I'm not sure where you can buy them, but they are nearly as prevalent as blackberries around here.

They grow about 3-5 feet tall in wooded areas, and are tall and slender with distinctive leaves, often found in patches. You'll also recognize them by the pain they inflict on bare skin!

To get rid of the stinging properties, be sure to cook them for at least 15-20 minutes. It's best to wear gloves when handling them.
