Would Seattle be a good place for a music journalist to live?

Are there good journalism opportunities in the city?

How's the music scene?

How is Seattle in general? How are the people and way of life?Would Seattle be a good place for a music journalist to live?
Ever heard of Charles Cross? (Kurt Cobain biographer and Rolling Stone contributor). Cross has made a good career for himself living in Seattle and chronicling music. Don't see why you couldn't, too. The local music scene is vibrant, as it always has been since the days of Ray Charles in Seattle's Central District clubs, the Ventures-Sonics-Wailers--Fleetwoods at the Spanish Castle, Heart and Quiet Riot, , Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam---THE LIST GOS ON AN ON. There's always good music to be discovered and chronicled in Seattle.

By the way, Seattle has often made those lists of "most livable" cities, and the people are generally friendlier than in other parts of the country. If the Northwest calls you, you won't have any trouble at all fitting in.
capital hill or if you can afford it by benaroya hall in downtown. or even out on auroraWould Seattle be a good place for a music journalist to live?
i think it has a good music industry...grunge started there and lately alot of the Indie rock scene has been coming from the pacific northwest (bands like Fleet Foxes, Blittzen Trapper, etc..)...not to mention all the local bands..
I guess. There are a lot of little indie groups and such you could cover. I wouldn't say there are any good opportunities right now especially since the PI went under. Go to NY or Chicago instead. There's just more happening there and those cities have a more confident image of themselves. Seattle is a bit insecure and so many of the locals get so defensive if you mention any of it's flaws or say that somewhere else is a better place to live. Is anywhere the best for all? No. Is Seattle the best? Probably not. There are some nice people, but a lot of snobby, passive-aggressive, stuffy ones who have no reason to be. People also get uppity if you mention that it rains a lot there. Why? It's a fact. It's weird plus the public transportation is lame and you need a car. The drivers are the also the weirdest.

People love or hate Seattle, but everyone can agree that it really is like nowhere else in America.
There are a lot of music publishing companies located in Seattle. And Seattle has produced a lot of bands, and is just overall a musical community. So the more music around would probably be an easier time for finding those opportunities.
