It is as safe as you make it - lock your doors, get to know your neighbors etc...

The safest neighborhoods in the Seattle area are the following:

Magnolia - a bit of a pain commute but fairly residential and depending on where you live quaint little shops.

Queen Anne - if you can afford to live at the top of the hill or lower Queen Anne on the SPU college side - not the downtown side.

Fremont / Gasworks Park area: tons of great shopping and restaurants closer to Fremont.

By far the best area and priciest and most convenient bus routes is in Ballard. Amazing neighborhood - lots of personality, restaurants, bars, grocery stores, gym, movie theatre but still small town feel.
Areas just north of downtown are great,

Ballard is my favorite just like the previous poster but other areas to look at are Fremont, Greenwood, Greenlake, Wallingford and The University District.

All of these areas are nice, safe and walkable with lots of shops, cafes etc. and are located on major bus lines.

I would stay away from areas south of downtown such as the Central District, Beacon Hill and anything near Ranier Ave.What areas are safe to move into seattle washington. My roomate and I are both feamales and we are moving from?
I'd suggest looking for places near downtown. Keep in mind that things are going to be more expensive, though, because of the conveniences nearby. Our Metro Bus system is pretty decent and runs all the time. I'd suggest Ballard, personally. Only a few minutes from downtown, lots of shops, food, and the Bay Theater. Also close to the beach (although I wouldn't suggest going this time of year) and I'm sure you can find a decent place for cheaper than many other neighborhoods. My second suggestion would be West Seattle. If you're looking for a ton of stuff going on, try Capitol Hill, but again, expensive. Good luck!
Seattle is way safe compared to Vegas.. but.

For price, and just general stuff to do, I would suggest around the U district. It's cheap, it's safe, it's near EVERYTHING, and the buses run all the time from like 4:30 am until 1:15am. Ballard is a nice area as well, but it will run you more money probably and transportation isn't as frequent.
i think you would do better closer to the University, but as far as coffee shops Seattle is like the home of Starbucks. If you just looking in the Seattle area i would suggest Auburn its not very far from the city and its very suburban
University District.

Capitol Hill is nice, but crime has been going way up.

Wallingford is wonderful! and Fremont and Ballard.
hope it helps
